ONEIDA AREA CIVIC CHORALE

Chorale Ensemble Preparing for Baltics Tour with Kickoff Concert

.The OACC Tour Ensemble, a group of 35 members of Oneida Area Civic Chorale, will soon be heading on a concert tour of the Baltic countries of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.  Under the auspices of Music Celebrations International, the group will be part of the American Celebration of Music Concert Series.  Director Mark Bunce and collaborative pianist Jared McFarlin will lead the group in a variety of numbers from the March and June Chorale concerts, including Kathleen Ballantyne’s “All Join Hands”.  The Chorale will be singing in Latin, Hebrew, and Italian on various numbers.  Traditional spirituals will be represented with Tim Osick’s “Like a River In My Soul”, Robert Gibson’s arrangement of “Down by the Riverside” and “We Shall Walk Through the Valley”, arranged by Undine Smith Moore. There will also be the Jay Althouse arrangement of John Lennon’s “Imagine” as well as three arrangements by Mark Hayes: “The Prayer” (Sager/Foster), “One Song” (Hamlish/Bergman) and “Let There Be Peace” (Miller/Jackson).

After leaving JFK airport, the group will arrive in Talinn, the capital of Estonia, along the Baltic Sea.  Time in Talinn will include a guided tour of the Old Town area, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as sites around the city and surrounding countryside.  The group will then continue on to Riga, Latvia, stopping at landmarks along the way. Once in the city, there will be tours of several cathedrals, National Opera and the Art Nouveau district.  After Riga, the tour will continue to Vilnius, Lithuania. Stops en-route will include palaces and the Hill of Crosses.  Each of the major cities will include a concert by the chorale, one of which will be a “shared” concert with a local choir.

The Tour Ensemble will perform a Kick Off Concert on Thursday July 10th at 7PM at the Oneida First Presbyterian Church. (304 Broad Street, Oneida.)

The kickoff concert is free and open to all.
